One of the hottest topics arising from our recent blogs about online, offline and ‘all the time’ post-pandemic marketing, is how to manage your website… and does it really matter if it’s not entirely up-to-date?  Surely it’ll ‘do’, even if it’s a bit old?

The problem with that, is that your customers’ expectations have shifted…

68% of customers say that they have much higher expectations for businesses’ digital capabilities in the wake of Covid-19*

After all, as more than one person has said to me: “Lockdown was the perfect opportunity for companies to work on their websites, wasn’t it?  Because that must be so easy from home.”!!

Obviously, it’s not that simple.  And though customer expectations are not always grounded in reality, they always matter.

So, how are you going to ‘up’ your website game?

It’s just one aspect of your digital marketing, but it’s probably the most expensive (for you) and visible (to your customers and prospects) one, so it makes sense to get the most out of it.

Is your website ‘dating’, or just dated?  First impressions really do count, so what’s your website saying about your company?

Right now, your website may still getting more ‘footfall’ than your actual premises; it’s very likely to be the first interaction many customers have with your business… so what could they be thinking when they see it?

Does it function well on multiple devices?

Because mobile devices account for over half of today’s web traffic; nearly 8 in 10 customers leave a website if it doesn’t display well on their device; and 57% of internet users say they won’t recommend a business with a poorly designed website on mobile*.  Let’s not have that happen to you!

And how hard does your website actually work for you?

Does your content build links? Are you adding new content for the search engines to consume? What’s your user experience like? Do you track which pages are popular and which aren’t working as well? And is your website delivering leads? Because it should be doing all this, and more!

With 75% of customers judging a company’s credibility based on its website design*, and 89% switching to a competitor after a poor website experience*… it really does matter.

We appreciate you won’t want to change your website design every year; but it’s good to refresh every 2-5 years, or sooner if your site isn’t working for you.

Is it time you took a look at yours?  Here are just some key trends and directions we could incorporate for you:

  • White space… also called mindful design, this is all about clean design and generous space (not necessarily white!)
  • Dark mode… great for creating vibrant sites and helps miminise eye strain too
  • Colour… light, dark, muted, even negative (clashing primary colours)- it’s safe to say colour usage still depends on your business, offering and audience
  • Asymmetry… creates visually intriguing, unusual layouts to catch the eye
  • Less is more… and oozes confidence!
  • Voice search… not just for Alexa, Siri and Cortana fans, it helps visually and physically impaired users too
  • Design for the thumb… with over 50% off web traffic comping from mobile devices, this functionality is becoming increasingly important

And we have so many more techniques in our tool box, too: mixing the tried and tested with the latest developments.

Website design doesn’t stand still; it’s constantly evolving, adding features which can do more and more ‘stuff’.  It’s all very clever, but it’s not appropriate for every website… our web specialists will help you identify what’s right for you, your business and your target audiences.

Let’s get together and get your website working!
